![]() At the same time, they give fun little story lessons in security and conduct real life fighting skills. Vanessa doesn’t like the idea of child soldiers, but Mike and Ethan are doing their best to preserve what childhood these kids have available in the vampire era. Together, they lead, train, and educate a platoon of orphan kids. The adult leader, Mike, introduces his group as “The Johnsons” and leads Vanessa and Julius back to his woodland compound. The kid leads the skin wearing vamps into an ambush where a squad of archers take them down. Vanessa breaks loose and follows but this child isn’t exactly prey. Apparently, child is their favorite, like pepperoni. A child wanders into the vamp camp and they chase it deep into the woods. These nasty vamps try a sample of Julius, but they don’t like his bitter taste. A minute later, they’re attacked by a sinister tribe of vampires that wear human skins sewn together like ponchos. Julius and Vanessa discover a pair of humans hanging upside down from a high tree branch, completely skinned of their flesh. This diabolical sequence is its own little horror movie, but it isn’t alone. Sam prevails, gives Felix the Mohamad haircut, then cuts out is tongue so he doesn’t have to hear Felix assert his real name. He tries to escape, he almost rescues the other kids, and he almost locks Sam outside where the sun will destroy him. Christopher Heyerdahl gives a perfectly creepy performance menacing and unsettling, capable of heading into any dark corner. ![]() Sam is determined to make Felix his new Mohamad. Ryan cries and pleads for help until Sam stops and feeds on him. Sam brings bully Ryan to the pool for ten lashings, the same number Felix endured. He toys and torments Felix with affection and sign language. Sam, on the other hand, embraces his inner predator. Axel is a vampire, but he’s still pure Marine. When Axel’s cravings hit hard, he makes Doc rope and spike him against a tree to keep him from feeding on people. Axel and Doc are shown briefly, he hasn’t had blood in days though Doc keeps offering. This episode features several people off hinge. Vanessa could care less, she has a lot of killing to do and nothing left to anchor her. She hacks up many ferals, no one will miss them, but Julius warns her, powerful vampires are still hunting her. Julius, her new best friend, follows and helps when he can. With Dylan out of the story, where does Van Helsing go and why? She begins her period of grieving with a violent rampage. Van Helsing stumbles violently through a world without Dylan and discovers a new group of survivors in “A Home.” This was a crucial episode, the first since closing Van Helsing’s original journey.
